Education is king in Singapore, commanding over 20 per cent of the country’s annual budget and English is the official language of instruction. In fact, English is such a part of Singapore life they’ve even invented their own version – Singlish, Lah! ger=girl / kar pak = car park / relak, lah – chill chill
Whether it’s English or Singlish, the investment in education has paid off with a claimed 98 percent literacy rate and we don’t think they would tok kok [which means ‘speak nonsense’].
