That statement is reinforced by the researcher’s interview with some of teachers and Junior High School
Students. Related to the interview (March, 10th 2014), one of the teachers testified that there are some other
factors which affect the student’s self-concept in their learning process.
Those teachers’ statement also corroborated by some students who affirmed that their perspective on
mathematics as one of the learning subjects is a subject that is very difficult to understand. It is also confirmed
by Mursell (2008, p. 147) who said that students who have high motivation achievement tend to attribute their
success to their intelligence and attribute their failure as their inability. From the interview segments which is
related by Weiner’s learning motivation theory, student’s low learning motivation and negative self-concept
potentially cause the lack of learning activity and learning achievement, especially in student’s mathematical
communicative ability.
