While short-term load following capacity of nuclear power plant
is relatively limited compared to thermal plants [14], extensive
experiences already exist for load-following operation of nuclear
plant with output power gradients of up to 2% per min [15]. Additional
simulations suggested that if this operation was carried
out at all nuclear power plants upon the sudden output interruption,
the frequency deviation could be eased slightly. For instance,
the peak deviation was mitigated from
−0.188 Hz to
−0.180 Hz
for Pout = 1200 MW, Gsize = 90 GW, Snuclear = 30%, Srenew = 10%, and
Sthermal = 40%.
