Thailand experienced four major epidemic outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza H5N1 (HPAI H5N1) between
2004 and 2006. Sporadic cases were reported until late 2008 (Chantong and Kaneene, 2011). HPAI H5N1 is a lifethreatening
zoonosis; 17 of the 25 recorded human cases in Thailand were fatal.
