This article is the first to evaluate the visual outcomes and
health economic value of RRD surgery in the elderly population.
RRD surgery improved the visual acuity and quality of life for the
elderly patients and was cost-effective in consideration of their life
expectancies, with ICERs ranging from 30,142 CNY (4,792
USD)/QALY to 40,607 CNY (6,456 USD)/QALY. For patients
above 80 years of age, although the ICER was about three times
higher than that for patients aged 70–79 years, the RRD surgery
remained a cost-effective intervention.
