Lighting systems
Lighting systems in rearing must be dimmable and
programmable. Lights must be placed in different
strategic places, above the perches, slatted area and
above the floor. Lighting system must be independent
and must allow for the programming of each line
individually. To promote a good behaviour in lay, birds
must be trained from a young age to climb on to perches
before the lights are switched off, by switching off the
floor lines first and then the perch lights.
Light intensity must be uniform inside the building.
If not, it is strongly recommended to increase bulb
numbers. Use of low frequency light could lead to
flickering light, which increases stress in the flock.
