Eating 12 grapes at midnight on New Year's Eve is both a tradition and a superstition in Spain. It's traditional to eat grapes as you hear the clock from Puerta del Sol in Madrid chiming, one grape for each stroke of the clock. Each grape represents a different month. It's almost impossible to finish eating the grapes by the time the clock finishes chiming but if you can do it, you will have 12 months of good luck.
