Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) may be effective in the treatment of migraine in children and adolescents. Researchers in a randomized controlled trial of 135 children who were 10–17 years of age found that CBT plus amitriptyline resulted in a significant reduction in days with headache and migraine-related disability compared with education about headache plus amitriptyline (Powers et al., 2013)
In a study of 160 children who were 5–16 years of age, investigators observed that magnesium increases the efficacy of both acetaminophen and ibuprofen in the prevention of migraine (Gallell et al., 2014)
