3.3. UV–Vis absorption studies
The electronic absorption spectra of 1–5 as well as ruthenium
metal acceptor 6 were investigated in methanol (1 107 M).
The electronic absorption spectra of the discrete metalla-assemblies
1–5 along with its precursors reveals that the transitions
associated with the free ligand are largely preserved upon selfassembly.
The dinuclear arene ruthenium acceptor exhibited
energy absorption bands at 261 and 317 nm. The dominant spectral
features of discrete metalla-assemblies match closely with
those of the precursor units, however with minor bathochromic
