5.2. Procedure
Children were interviewed individually in their day care center. The interviews were conducted by interviewers previously trained in the use of the instrument. Interviews took, on average, 20–25 min to complete. Children were withdrawn from their current activity for this period and interviewed alone in a separate room, or in a quiet area away from other children. Participants responded to the nomination items in the interview orally and by pointing out individuals from photographs of their day care group placed in front of them. Ethical guidelines applied to the study did not allow researchers to take photographs of the children and so individual photographs of children (faces and upper torso) were provided by day care centers.
