The effect of heating spores in the presence of germinantswas determined,
by comparing the effect on recovery of spores on CBA fromheated
spore suspensions of MJM or peptone water. Three Hungate tubes
each containing 7 mL of anaerobic MJM were each inoculated with
1 mL of C. estertheticum spore suspension (ca. 5 log cfu mL−1) using a
sterile 1 mL syringe (Becton-Dickinson) with a sterile needle attached
(23G; Becton-Dickinson).
