Bandura (1986) developed social learning theory into social cognitive theory by examining self-regulatory processes. He said that people seek reciprocity between their behavior and environ mental factorsthat is, people will have a higher motivation to learn if results of that learning will be positively appreciated by their surrounding social roup. Bandura also said that people learn behaviors and consequences of behaviors vicariously, by simply observing environmental cues and behaviors modeled by people around them, assessing their performance through this dynamic According to Bandura, we also learn from observing the group's re action to other people's behavior. This knowledge is essential if we are going to create self-leadership cultures (see Chapter 9), because self-leaders are aware of environmental cues and act upon them
