1. Case report
A 35 year old male presented with complaints of pain, watering
and hard whitish masses in the both eyes since 4 months. The
patient noticed multiple whitish masses first in right eye followed
by left eye. It was associated with pain and redness in eyes with no
history of diminution of vision, watering, flaking, photophobia and
trauma or any history of contact with animal or trivial injury with
vegetative matter in eyes. The patient had similar presentation 5
years back for which he was treated with antibiotics.
On examination, bilateral lower palpebral congestion & partial
symblepharon was present. Multiple whitish, hard, loosely
adherent masses were observed in the lower fornix of both eyes,
which left raw surface on attempt of removal. The patient had
normal vision with no corneal involvement. Systemic examination
revealed no abnormal findings.
Excision biopsy of the right eye masses was performed and sent
immediately in Robertson cooked meat medium (RCM) for culture
and sensitivity to microbiology laboratory.
RCM was further sub-cultured on Brain heart infusion blood
agar, Blood agar and MacConkey agar in both anaerobic and aerobic
conditions. The brain heart infusion agar was incubated at 37 C in
the anaerobic glove box chamber. After 48 h, Brain heart infusion
blood agar showed white, tiny, breadcrumb like, adherent colonies
on anaerobic incubation at 37 C. The colonies showed brownish
