Three technology companies have collaborated to provide the first cloud-based mobile payment platform in Thailand that allows users to process credit card payments on their smartphones.
SET-listed MFECPlc, SimplyTapp from the US and Japan's TIS Inc have jointly developed the NFC-based mobile payment service, called the Asian payment cloud project.
"Thailand is the first country in Asia-Pacific we selected to launch the Android-based mobile payment service," said Doug Yeager, chief executive of SimplyTapp Inc, an Austin, Texas-based cloud mobile payment technology firm.
Japan will be the second country in the region the companies will penetrate.
"Siam Commercial Bank is the first commercial bank in Thailand as its customer," Mr Yeager said, adding that the bank plans a pilot service rollout by the end of this year, targeting 1,000 customers.
