Government, industry, and consumers are more and more interested
in ways to reduce the municipal solid waste resulting from
use of plastics and to decrease the dependence of plastics on petrochemical
sources (Kim, 2008; Koutsimanis et al., 2012; Mohanty
and Misra, 2002). This has led to the intensification of research to
develop plastics that are biodegradable and made from renewable
resources.
