China green tea (CGT) was purchased from a retail shop in New
Zealand while selenium-containing green tea (SGT) was obtained
from China. SGT is not presently available on the market. The aqueous
extracts were made by adding 100 ml water (100 C) to 1 g (1%
extract) or 2 g (2% extract) tea leaves and brewing for 10 min with
stirring and removing solid matter by filtration. The extracts were
filter-sterilized before being added to the MRS broth. Each experiment
was run in duplicate and the whole experiment was repeated
to confirm the results
