We performed an elasto-plastic large-deformation
analysis of ball swaging using the FEM. We numerically
and experimentally clarified that the base plate is
influenced by the arm deformation due to the asymmetric
stress and the baseplate deformation is a superposition
of the arm’s deformation on the baseplate’s
own deformation. We confirmed that the numerical
results for the baseplate deformation were in good
agreement with the experimental results, showing that
our numerical model and analytical method correctly
replicate the deformation mechanism.
