Leadership
One of the key elements observed early on by the home site staff was
the need for strong physician leadership to the project. Specifically,
sites with physician leaders that were well established, respected by
their staff, peers and administrations, were more successful in their program implementation. The sharing of the leadership role was also key in
ensuring continuity of the program in the absence of a physician leader.
Team members pointed out that when even one physician went on vacation
or left to attend a training seminar, this created a major deficiency
for the program
