The main objective of this paper is to develop a new inspection tool based on pulse echo ultrasonic technology, which makes possible to provide a global density map of sintered parts, thus enabling a better control of the output into the market, increasing anufacturer reliability for the supply of P/M parts and increasing competitiveness. The
ultrasound technology has already been enabled in compact form next to production lines in order to provide a quasi on-line volumetric examination system. This work has been conducted under the SINTEST Project (Grant agreement number 222288) supported by the European Community within the Seventh Framework Program (FP7). The project addresses the current need to provide a SMEs consortium with an innovative, effective and cost-efficient inspection system for improved on-line inspection of P/M sintered parts.
