3.4. Whole body composition
Dietary carbohydrate source had no significant effects on moisture, protein, and ash contents of whole body in blunt snout bream. Lipid contents of whole body showed an increasing trend with increasing carbohydrate complexities (Table 5).
3.5. Plasma parameters
Plasma total protein and cholesterol contents were independent of dietary carbohydrate source. Significantly higher plasma triglyceride contents were measured in fish fed with dextrin diet compared to those fed with maltose, glucose and cellulose diets (Table 6).
3.6. Plasma glucose content and key glucose metabolism enzyme activities
Plasma glucose levels were significantly higher at 2 h than 24 h postprandial except in the cellulose group. Plasma glucose level was significantly affected by dietary carbohydrate source at 2 h, but not at 24 h postprandial. At 2 h postprandial, highest plasma level was observed in fish fed with the glucose diet, while lowest value was observed in fish fed with the cellulose diet (P < 0.05) ( Fig. 1).
