Thus, authentication services are fundamental to achieving secured e-commerce. As a result, merchants paid more attention on protecting credit card data by ensuring that it was not transmitted in its original form, by encrypting it so that it could travel securely over the internet. However, in reality, most security breaches occur after the transaction is completed. It means when a customer's credit card number is kept unprotected in merchant's computer, the possibility of misuse is more. In this way, a hacker can net a file of several thousand credit card numbers.
