2.1.3. Procedure
The observations took place during the regular opening hours of
the LiMo on different days of the week and at different times of a
day. After selecting a visitor on a random basis, a trained observer
noted all the actions performed by the visitor in a notation scheme
including the social context of the visit (alone, in a dyad, or as a
member of a larger group of three to five), the path through the
exhibition, which showcases were looked at, interactions of the
visitors with other persons (including museum attendants), as well
as the usage of the digital museum guide.
Prior to the study, two trained observers recorded a test visitor's
way through the exhibition. Both for the number of stops in front of
each showcase and for the assessment of whether a stop occurred
in front of a given showcase, inter-rater-agreement was sufficiently
high, Cohen's k ผ 0.83.
