Thirty-four accessions from the most variable eco- geographic points, within the natural range of distri- bution in the country, were chosen initially because of the availability of the seed from the FLGBV-INIA (Ta- ble 1). Depending on the seed availability, these 34 C. molle accessions were cultivated during the wet season (May-September) in pots under greenhouse conditions, or in small plots (2 x 2 m2) at the experimental station of the Agronomy Faculty, Universidad Central de Vene- zuela (UCV), Maracay (10o15´N, 67o39´W; elevation 450 m.a.s.l.). In both cases, plants were grown on a sandy loam soil and were fertilized and irrigated accordingly. Weed control was performed manually.
