In this study, a non-destructive
test called the instrumented indentation method [7,8] was conducted
forwelded H-shape stubs fabricated fromSM490 andHSA800. In the instrumented
indentation method, a small indenter is used to load the
surfaces of two specimens; the first is the one in which residual stress
is to be measured, and the other is stress-free and used for comparison.
The difference between the hardness of the two surfaces is used to
determine the residual stress. The theoretical basis of this method is
not explained here due to space limitations. Fig. 5 shows the measurement
