SMFC-1 and SMFC-2 were operated with used aquaculture
water having pH of 8.5; electrodes were kept at a distance of
90 cm and external resistance of 0 was used. SMFC-1 demonstrated
average COD and TN removal of 2.420 ± 0.020 g m−2 d−1 and
0.210 ± 0.007 g m−2 d−1, respectively and a power density during
polarization of 4.030 ± 0.005 mWm−2. Similarly, SMFC-2 showed
average COD removal, TN removal and power density during polarization
of 2.420 ± 0.040 g m−2 d−1, 0.210 ± 0.012 g m−2 d−1 and
3.980 ± 0.090 mWm−2, respectively (Figs. 5 and 6a). In case of
SMFC-1 and SMFC-2,the COD removal, TN removal and power density
obtained in the validation experiments were slightly higher
than the value predicted by the model.
