The proposed development also includes provision of sealed road access and junction upgrades, biodiversity buffer and mounding, solar thermal energy and water infrastructure, a seawater intake pipe and a pipe for brine dispersal into the gulf.
Port Augusta mayor Sam Johnson said this is a huge milestone for the community.
“The expansion of Sundrop Farms will create a number of jobs in both the construction and operational phases and we look forward to seeing this project progress and to providing a new industry for our AridSmart City,” he said.
After originally opening in 2010, Sundrop unveiled plans to expand in August 2013.
If the development does go ahead, construction is expected to take two years, however, Sundrop Farms will look to build the project in separable portions.
Ten hectares of expanded greenhouse is expected to be operational in November, 2015 with the remaining 10 hectares to follow a few months after that.
