Fungi are continuous threat to livestock feeds of economic
importance such as compound feeds.
They may affect feed either directly by causing mechanical
damage throughout feeding, or indirectly by secreting and
spreading mycotoxins such as aflatoxins in the case of aflatoxin
producing fungi. The common fungal genera contaminating com-
pound feeds in South Africa are those belonging to the Fusarium,
