The static properties are listed in Table 1. Four samples of each material were tested, and their values were within 5% of the mean values. There is no significant difference between the two materials in static mechanical properties. This can be explained by the general experimental result that the fibres have the largest influence on the longitudinal static properties for 0∘ polymer matrix composite (PMC) laminates. For mechanical properties strongly influenced by the interface, e.g. transverse, compressive and shear strength, the difference has been observed to be larger[7]. If the similitude in properties of longitudinal laminates is not maintained under fatigue conditions, it can be inferred that the interface affects the fatigue degradation mechanisms in the present case.
