However, for the octoploid plants, although good images
were obtained, the somatic chromosomes at the metaphase
stage were tightly packed and had similar shapes. Moreover, it
was difficult to identify those chromosomes one by one because
the chromosome shapes were noticeably similar and were
therefore not clearly distinguishable. Yamaguchi (1980)
reported for cultivated strawberries with very small chromosomes
that each set of homologous chromosomes is difficult to
identify.
