has recently been characterized, which may in
part be responsible for the toxicologic effects of Fusarium
moniliforme-contaminated grain. The toxins
are collectively called the fumonisins and include fumonisin
Al, A2, B1, and B2.1 Fumonisin B1, the predominant
toxin, has been identified as the causative
agent in equine leukoencephalomalacia10,13 and porcine
pulmonary edema.7 However, no information has
been published concerning the effects of fumonisin B1
in poultry.
