By this time both of his parents had died and Kant's finances were not yet secure enough for him to pursue an academic career.
He finally returned to Königsberg in 1754 and began teaching at the Albertina the following year. For the next four decades Kant taught philosophy there, until his retirement from teaching in 1796 at the age of seventy-two.
