Culture control is increasingly used to replace rules-based control in an attempt to enhance communication within organisations. Table 6 shows the relationship between organisational dimensions and communication variables both for the Anglo and Far Eastern clusters. An organisation emphasizing an external orientation places special emphasis on satisfying clients and customers. This can be taken to mean that external Anglo organisations require their personnel to have high inter-personal and intra-personal skills to communicate with clients or customers. Both clusters indicate that cultural variables and structured communication networks contribute towards effective communication. Interestingly, the Far Eastern cluster does not find “Religious issues” and “Face” to be significant communication barriers. This may be due to their being task-oriented and with their priorities focussed on the organisational activities rather than concern for the individual and social needs of its members.
