Current world economic trends were formed centered around the 1st world countries in the 1980s, and because of this the succeeding successful economic development of the four “Asian Dragons” surprised the leading world economists of the time. The scholars analyzing the reasons for their rapid development focused on the fact that each of the four countries has been historically influenced by Confucian values. Michael Bond, for example, suggested the reason for this development was because of “Confucian dynamism," while Hofstede analyzed the effects of Confucian beliefs in terms of long-term and short-term orientations toward life.
