I, as a 25-year old non-native English teacher with 5 years of teaching experience to all age groups at various levels, proudly claim the fact that a number of non-native teachers possess the necessary skills and qualifications to outperform their native counterparts. My NN colleagues and I have had the chance to be compared with our native colleagues from Canada or the US by our students and surprisingly enough for us, we were the chosen ones! Firstly, students repeatedly complained that their native teachers failed to meet the their demands regarding grammar and perplexing constructions. What's more, empathy is an important asset for any teacher which is naturally acquired by NN teachers since they themselves underwent the same procedure as students. However, native teachers can be more competent when running conversation classes. To be fair, well qualified NN teachers must have the chance to work in the same way that the natives do or at least be given the opportunity.
