No clear trend on climate change impact on water resources in the ten river basins can be drawn at the moment. The Global Circulation Models (GCMs) disagree whether monsoon precipitation will rise or fall (e.g. Ashfaq et al., 2009). The Indus and Brahmaputra part of GBM are subject to increasing threat of glacier melting due to climate change while Ganges part of GBM, Yangtze and Yellow River are less influenced by glacier melting (Immerzeel,van beek & Bierkens, 2010). Immerzeel et al. (2010) did not investigate our other target basins, but those do not have large glacier areas if any within their basin area (Armstrong et al., 2005) and thus, glacier melting impacts are probably on local level only.
