Bird sales need to continue in Victoria. They are a very important vehicle for breeders, some with many years of experience and expertise, to educate the general public as to the correct method of keeping and breeding birds without compromising their well being. In consultation with the relevant governing bodies, new regulations have just recently been put in place to rectify a few unacceptable instances of poor presentation that have come to the attention of bird sale organisers. The new regulations have outlined revised minimum acceptable display box sizes for various bird species. These will be strictly enforced by all bird sale organisers. For a number of years now, there have been in place guidelines stating the maximum time allowable for birds to be confined to display boxes to ensure that they are not placed under undue stress. When organisations are taking bookings for bird sales, every effort is made to ensure that people are aware of their obligation to comply with the rules and regulations as outlined in the code of practice governing all Victorian bird sales.Animal activists are currently working very hard to endeavor to have all bird sales in Victoria banned, in their view due to unfounded allegations of cruelty. We believe the agenda being to eventually have the keeping and breeding of all companion birds whether pets or breeding birds in aviaries, banned completely. This is being pushed forcefully on their current website. We ask all bird lovers to sign our petition NOW to prevent this from happening. Also please contact your local parliamentarian in writing registering your opposition to this , and concern, that this may eventuate. In addition, please email the minister for Victorian Agriculture, jaala.pulford@parliament.vic.gov.au. People power and basic commonsense will prevail, but we need to have our voices heard... NOW !!
