Phase Three: Evaluating Effects on Engagement and Learning Outcomes
Reflecting and evaluating the process and products of the student initiated CLD revealed even
more variance in student agency and autonomy than the thematic approach. Whilst all students
also completed this unit successfully, noticeable differences were observed in how students
preferred to learn and were able to manage their learning. Most of the class were able to construct
their learning and assessment products independently of Yvonne, contacting her for guidance and
support based on their own needs. These students achieved a high final grade, often were
surprised by their engagement and achievement. Yvonne commented towards the final stages of
