Ina study of the crystallization of sodium aluminosilicate gels, Senterov has reported the formation of analcime, mordenite, and the prepration of a species which resembles nature ferrierit, another member of the mordenite group of zeolites(39). The synthesis of mordenite from an obsidian glass in a natural hydrothermal environmental was reported by Ellis. The glass was lowered into a drill hole at wairakei, New Zeland to a depth of over 1000 feet and left 17 years. The temperature was 230 oC and the pH reported to be 5.7(44).
