Of interest to instructional designers is the idea that the episodic buffer is not considered part of long-term memory. It may be possible to design and organize information for optimal use of this buffer. If the learner does not need to perform low-level integration and
organization, more mental effort would be freed to perform other functions conducive to long-term storage and recall. Working memory can retrieve information from the episodic buffer, creating relatively new representations while at the same time also retrieving information
from long-term memory. The unique juxtaposition of information in the episodic buffer may explain some aspects of problem solving and creativity
