Solid phase micro-extraction (SPME) combined with static headspace overcomes this disadvantage by concentrating the volatile and semivolatile compounds vaporized in the headspace on an appropriate fiber coated with an extracting phase. After adsorption and absorption of the volatiles onto the SPME fiber, the fiber is introduced in the injection port and the volatiles directly desorbed in the injector. SPME technique was successfully applied to the analysis of additives or degradation products of polymer and for the identification and quantification of compounds present at very low concentration.10
