R U Healthy?
Meet our fitness robot who will take your temperature, weigh you and measure your height. R U Healthy will also answer your question about diet and personal relationships. The health center is run by experienced staff who are used to working with young people.
Fame at Last!
Have your teachers ever asked if you wanted to get behind a microphone and give your opinion? Then now is your chance to learn some basic techniques about recording and news reporting. If you enjoy movies, then come and learn how to make a video. All instructions are given by professional teachers who will also inform you about classes available at local schools and colleges.
Science and History Park
Learn about how people lived centuries ago and have fun experimenting with simple machines and microscopes in the science laboratory. Costumes are available for kids who want to experience a day in the life of King Arthur, for example. Science kits can be bought at competitive prices in the Center’s shop.
Design Studio
Test your creative abilities in our studio.Equipment and materials are available for the young artist, photographer or fashion designer. The latest computer technology helps you improve your work and techniques.
Children’s Camp
Parents asked us where young children could play safely. We told them we have our own Pooh Bear Babysitting Service and a tree house village where kids can spend the day playing and using their imagination. A mini supermarket and mini restaurant have been specially built for our young customers.
Where to Find Us
Lesley Walker’s Discovery Center is in the heart of the historic gardens of Smithsville, close to train and bus connections. Free transportation goes from downtown to the hardens every 20 minutes. There are parking areas at the center for bicycles, motorcycles and cars.
Hours
During the school year we are open on weekdays from 3 p.m. to p.m. During the holidays and weekends we’re open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Entrance
Children under 12 get in free of charge. 13- to 19-yeaer-olds pay a fee of $30 for three months’ worth of unlimited visits. Children under the age of 10 must bring an older brother or sister ( or an adult ) whit them. Adults who come with their children enter free. Everyone must apply for our special membership card.
Special Facilities
LWDC provides easy entrance everywhere for people in wheelchairs. All video presentations have text for people who are hearing impaired. A sign language service is also available but must be requested three days before you visit the center.
