Lettuce is one of the most widely consumed vegetable. It is used both fresh and cooked. At present, commercial lettuce are grown in hydroponic system, becauce it can can control nutriens and partially. Control the environment to suit the plants, leading to uniformity of constant yield. The planting media is one of important factors which effects the growth of plants in hydroponic system. Therefore, selection of the suitable planting materials for each type of plant holding proper ratio of water and air is required. In general, a good planting material for hydroponic system should be clean, drain well, easy to find and cheap (โสระยา,2548). Currently, the use of plant material is often imported from abroad, which have high prices, and it cannot be reused. This experiment intended to study the possibility to use local materials as a substitute of perlite and vermiculite in order to reduce waste and save cost of hydroponic lettuce production.
