Coordinated efforts throughout Greece for the introduction of information technology
into the healthcare sector started at the end of the 1980s with the first Community
Support Framework (1st CSF), which intended to bring information technology closer to
the health sector. The efforts continued in the mid-1990s with the 2nd CSF. Its main
target was to strengthen the infrastructure and thus to make introduction easier. In 2000,
the 3rd CSF aimed to create information-oriented organizations in the healthcare sector
by introducing integrated information systems into public hospitals throughout Greece.
