Outcome
This case was a 14 year-old non-healing venous leg ulcer, with a history of recurrent P. aeruginosum infection. At baseline, the wound was exuding moderately, was malodourous, and biofilm was suspected.
The patient was changed over to a wound management regimen of AQUACELTM Ag+ dressing, covered with CureaTM dressing and a compression bandage.
After 6 weeks of use of AQUACELTM Ag+ dressing, significant progress towards healing was made: a bridge of epithelial tissue formed, and the overall wound area decreased from 75 cm2 to 36.6 cm2. AQUACELTM
Ag+ dressing successfully managed the exudate, and due to the reduction in exudate, the frequency of dressing changes was reduced from every three days to every five days. Wound odor was problematic prior to use of AQUACELTM Ag+ dressing, and after use of AQUACELTM Ag+ dressing, it was reported that the odor decreased.
The patient reported reductions in pain levels during dressing changes and with the dressing in situ. Both the patient and her family reported high levels of satisfaction with the progression of this previously stagnant ulcer after just 6 weeks of management with AQUACELTM Ag+ dressing.
