This course will serve well the needs of students who wish to broaden their understanding of (1) The perspective of communication traditions, (2) Communication traditions on health and cultural issues, (3) Communication traditions on health and ethical issues, (3) Communication traditions on health and legal issues, and (4) Communication traditions on gender/sexuality issues. This course aims at deepening both International MA and Ph.D. students’ grasp of the depth and breadth of health issues that are relevant in the region. It is developed with the multi-faceted health-related issues in mind; as well as the need for students to grasp the complexity and multi-dimensionality of health issues.
The main objective of the course is to provide a perspective of issues pertinent to health and marginalized populations from the communication tradition. Specifically, the course will (1) Provide an alternative direction, perspective and guide in analyzing and working with issues pertaining to society and health, (2) Provide a platform for open discussion, debate and development of ideas when communicating with and for marginalized populations.
