Both b-carotene and a-carotene concentrations in the pulp of cv. Chanee increased rapidly, during growth and ripening, while concentrations in cv. Monthong increased only little (Fig. 2B and C). Lutein concentrations also increased during growth in both cultivars, more so in cv. Chanee than in cv. Monthong, but no further increase was found during ripening (Fig. 2D). Only a small difference was found between concentrations in the two cultivars (Fig. 2D). The concentrations of zeaxanthin did not alter during growth. It increased just before maturity and during the period between mature and ripe fruit (Fig 2E). No difference was found between concentrations in the two cultivars (Fig. 2E).
