set up in order to ensure the functioning of the community; morals to values rather
than just functioning. Then again, humans commonly show the same reaction for both
the meanings. Usually a moral stigma affects suspected offenders of criminal actions,
and conversely those who commit moral injustice are called in common voice
“criminals” even if they may not explicitly violate any statutory prohibition.
The goal of rules is not necessarily to make people good: it is also to make them
responsible: that is, able and ready to assuming the consequences of their action. This
provides certainty on the consequences of everyone’s action, and certainty on the fact
that such consequences will be enforced in the highest possible percentage of cases.
