Vishnu is the preserver of the universe. He is the one god that creates incarnations of his self on earth. Each time he manifests, he does it to help protect the universe. He is believed to have created 9 incarnations. Three recent incarnations are from places that still exist today. These include Rama from Ayodhya, India and the Hindu epic, ‘The Ramayana”, Krishna from Mathura, India who teaches Arjuna the art of spiritual devotion in ‘The Bhagavad Gita’, and Siddhartha Gautama who becomes the Buddha from Lumbini, Nepal. It is believed that the 10th incarnation of Vishnu will come at the end of the Kali Yuga, which is the current and last epoch in the human cycle of existence, to bring us into Satya Yuga, or the age of enlightenment.
