Seed sowing dates (Table 5) were other factors affecting soil enzymatic
activity. In both soils under study, the activity of the enzymes in
all experimental plots was higher in autumn seed sowing conditions than during the spring ones. This could be associated with different
root mass growth, generating different enzyme secretion to the rhizosphere
both directly from the roots and bacteria and fungi which develop
in the root zone. Enzymatic activity depends on the absolute
quantity, the size of the reactive compounds pool other than enzymes
and the catalytic efficiency (Murray et al., 1995).
