According to the DSM-IV-TR, anxiety disorders
encompass a variety of psychiatric illnesses that interfere
with social and occupational functioning, including agoraphobia,
panic disorder, specific and social phobias, obsessive
compulsive disorder (OCD), posttraumatic stress disorder
(PTSD), acute distress disorder, and GAD,8 which is the
most common anxiety disorder encountered in primary
care and the focus of this article.
